Message from DEPO’s Desk

Greetings!
It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you to the official website of the District Education Office, Baramulla. As the District Education Planning Officer, I, Tariq Ahmad Kanjwal, take pride in leading a dedicated team committed to building an inclusive, innovative, and student-centered education system across our district—a region renowned for its cultural richness, resilience, and immense potential.

Our vision is both ambitious and purposeful: “To create a future-ready, inclusive, and equitable education system that empowers every learner in Baramulla to achieve their full potential.” Guided by this vision, we continue to implement meaningful reforms and developmental strategies that place the student at the heart of our planning.
In recent years, the district has witnessed remarkable progress in several areas. We have successfully introduced digital classrooms in both rural and urban schools, integrating modern technology into traditional teaching practices. To further strengthen digital learning, ICT labs have been established in a growing number of schools, providing students with hands-on exposure to computer literacy and digital tools. Recognizing the importance of fostering innovation and creativity, Atal Tinkering Labs have also been set up in select institutions to nurture scientific curiosity and problem-solving skills among young minds.
Efforts to empower girl students have led to improved enrollment, attendance, and participation, especially in remote and underprivileged areas. School infrastructure has seen significant enhancements, including the provision of safe drinking water, gender-segregated sanitation facilities, and secure boundary walls to ensure safety and dignity.
To ensure safety and awareness among students, road safety education programs have been launched in collaboration with local authorities. Furthermore, our partnership with the NCORD mechanism has enabled us to actively engage in drug de-addiction awareness, peer-led counseling, and student support initiatives aimed at promoting drug-free school environments.
We also continue to lead impactful IEC (Information, Education & Communication) campaigns across the district—focusing on health, hygiene, mental well-being, and the value of education—through rallies, workshops, posters, and interactive school-based activities. Our planning processes are now supported by GIS-based school mapping, enabling data-driven decisions for equitable resource allocation across all 18 educational zones.
I encourage educators, parents, students, and community members to stay connected, offer feedback, and be active partners in this journey toward a more empowered and educated Baramulla.
Let us work together to ensure that every child in our district not only dreams freely but has every opportunity and resource to realize those dreams.

“Planning with Purpose, Educating with Equity.”
